A significant part of my artistic work and practice involves teaching. I love the changing dynamics of different studio groups, where we create our own discourses, supports and culture for making. This is the magic of shared studio time. We all get to learn from one another. I benefit greatly from working within the setting of a shared studio as instructor, where I envisage my roll as facilitator for adults and youth to work.
I introduce concepts, material techniques and explorations. I speak about what is happening in the contemporary landscape through lectures and theory. I aim to build students’ tools and methods for expression and I often encourage folks to work outside of what may feel most comfortable. Together, we can question why something seems important and what it “does” within the art context. Our studio classes are an open space, inherently political, often subversive, feminist, and queer+ / trans supportive, anti-racist, and questioning our internal biases related to (settler) colonialism, religion, class, ableism or capitalism. All are welcome.

The Toronto School of Art, in downtown Tkoronto, is a space where I teach a variety of courses: from completely introductory painting with acryllic- a truly beginner’s course- to advanced collage, themed and conceptual drawing courses, as well as ink making workshops and courses. TSA is an artist run institution that welcomes fellow artists and craftworkers, professional development, beginners, hobbyist and engaged rigorous work. I am grateful to work with fellow artists as students, faculty and staff.
